HERE ARE A FEW THINGS YOU CAN DO TO IMPROVE YOUR VEHICLE'S TRADE-IN VALUE:
GIVE YOUR VEHICLE A THOROUGH WASH AND WAX
How your vehicle looks at a glance sets the first impression. A thorough wash and wax job can help restore lustre to your vehicle - making it look years younger than it is. Clean overlooked spots of your vehicle that often hide dirt the most. This includes your door frames, trunk edges and wheel wells.
VACUUM FROM TOP TO BOTTOM
A clean vehicle is often a sign of a vehicle that's been well-cared for. Take some time to vacuum and clean the interior prior to getting your inspection. Cotton swabs are great for getting dust and dirt out of tight spots and air vents. Lint-free towels or cloth diapers and clean water will help wipe down the dash and console area. Use a stiff-bristled brush to help get dirt out of the carpet. For stubborn stains, use only small amount of carpet cleaner to prevent from over saturating the carpet. Make sure to let the interior dry completely before closing your vehicle.
POLISH YOUR WHEELS
The wheels are sometimes forgotten but they can make a difference in the appearance of your vehicle. Take a look at the condition of your wheels to make sure they're clean and in good shape. Several car cleaning products help remove brake dust from disc brakes but make sure to choose the right one for your wheel or wheel cover.
INSPECT YOUR TIRES AND TREADS
Make sure that your tires have a reasonable amount of tread remaining, otherwise you may want to consider replacing them. Apply the spray-on tire protectants to your tires as the formulas in the products can help revitalize the rubber and leave your tires looking like they're showroom new.
CONSIDER HAVING YOUR CAR PROFESSIONALLY DETAILED AND MINOR BODY DAMAGE REPAIRED
Depending on the condition of your vehicle, you may want to consider having your car professionally detailed. The expense can add significantly more to the trade-in price. You may also want to consider having any minor dents and dings repaired to remove any minor imperfections on your vehicle. If you have more extensive body damage, try to provide a written estimate and use this document as part of your negotiations. If your windshield has a crack or chip - you should get it fixed or replaced prior to the inspection as well. Erin Mills Acura's partnership with Assured Automotive allows us to provide you a quick estimate at our location - no appointment needed!
CHECK THE VEHICLE'S PARTS & EMISSIONS STANDARDS
It's very easy to replace a broken headlight or cracked lens on a taillight or turn signal. These types of obvious damage can detract from the value of your vehicle, so it's a good idea to have them fixed prior to your inspection. Upon arrival to your inspection, provide a current and valid emissions standard document that states if your vehicle complies with local environmental regulations.
ORGANIZE YOUR SERVICE RECORDS
A complete set of service records will show the care you provided for the vehicle and that it was taken in during its scheduled maintenance. This will help increase the trade-in offer because it will show that the vehicle was properly maintained. If you carry an Added Security Extended Warranty - this is a good thing to present to the appraiser. Certain policies can be transferable and can add to the current value of your trade-in.
