How to Keep Your Vehicle's Battery from Dying this Winter
Winter driving requires delicate care of your vehicle’s key components, including your battery, as freezing weather can cause the average car battery to lose much of its strength. Luckily, we at Erin Mills Acura can provide you with a few helpful tips to keep your battery from dying during our toughest season. Learn more below and contact our Service Centre in Mississauga, ON for any maintenance or care your vehicle needs.
Firstly, it’s best to park your vehicle in a garage or parking facility if it’s available to you, as parking outdoors can expose your battery to moisture and contaminants that can tarnish its lifespan and power. It’s also best to drive at least 10 km or a more few times per week, which will give your alternator enough time to properly recharge your battery. Short trips and idling can shorten your battery’s life and keep it from fully recharging. As with your tires and vital fluids, it’s best to regularly check your battery, especially during the winter, and one of our technicians will be glad to inspect it and determine whether it requires replacing. If you can’t get away to drive your car long enough to recharge the battery, we recommend using a charger and a household outlet to charge it when your vehicle isn’t in use. This will minimize the risk of a dead battery mid-drive. Whether your battery needs inspecting or replacing, you can count on our Service Centre for all your winter maintenance needs.
