Signs of Problems with Your Air Conditioning Unit
Air Isn’t Cold Enough
Your A/C unit may be durable, but it may show signs of trouble over time and prolonged use. If you’ve set your air conditioning to a cold temperature and you sense the air coming from your vents isn’t cool enough, you may be dealing with a refrigerant leak or a faulty A/C compressor.
Noises Coming From Under the Hood
Unusual noises from under the hood are a common sign your vehicle has issues, one of which could be an ailing A/C compressor, which circulates and compresses your air conditioning’s refrigerant. If your compressor’s bearing wears out or seizes up, the drive belt may be unable to spin the compressor and could produce a high-pitched noise from under your hood. If you’re experiencing this issue, we recommend booking a service appointment at Erin Mills Acura, where we’ll fit your vehicle with a new compressor to get your A/C back in working order.
Failing Compressor Clutch
The clutch on your A/C unit’s compressor is connected to your engine and can cycle on and off as opposed to operating the whole time your vehicle is running. This gives your compressor a bit of relief and enhances your vehicle’s fuel efficiency. That said, your compressor clutch can end up stuck in the On position and either wear your compressor out or fail entirely, which means your compressor wouldn’t be functioning at all. Compressor clutches can be repaired, but we recommend erring on the side of caution and getting it replaced altogether at our Service Centre.
