Road Departure Mitigation System
Erin Mills Acura dealership is grateful to our customers who have made us the preferred authorized Acura dealer for Toronto, Oakville, Brampton and our home Mississauga. The safety of those drivers is paramount with Acura, and that commitment continues with AcuraWatch™. This comprehensive array of safety technologies is now standard on our new Acura inventory. A defining Acura safety feature is Road Departure Mitigation (RDM).
How Road Departure Mitigation Works
Road Departure Mitigation uses the camera mounted between the windshield and rear-view mirror to scan the road ahead for lane lines and raised reflective markers.
If the system senses you are about to leave the road, it displays a message in the Multi-Information Display between the tachometer and speedometer. If your Acura package has a Colour Head-Up Display, you will see an amber warning there as well. Road Departure Mitigation then applies the steering torque to ease you back into your lane. If necessary, the system can also apply braking to keep your vehicle from leaving the road.
Road Departure Mitigation functions at highway speeds of 72 kilometres per hour or higher. Be aware that the system cannot work with faded lane lines or snow-covered markers. As with any driver assistance technology, there is no substitute for keeping your attention on the road.
Using and Setting the Road Departure Mitigation System
Road Departure Mitigation is active when you start your Acura and can remain active even if you disengage the Lane Keep Assist System. The dashboard-mounted RDM button allows you to toggle the system on and off.
With your Acura's transmission in Park, you can set the sensitivity of the Road Departure Mitigation system to one of three modes:
Normal: In this default mode, the system's steering input intervenes when you approach the inside of a detected lane.
Wide: With this less sensitive setting, the steering intervention occurs when you approach the outside of a lane.
Warning Only: In this mode, the Road Departure Mitigation system displays a "BRAKE" warning but does not apply steering or braking intervention.
